Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute Announces Key Leadership Appointments

The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) has announced a sweeping set of leadership appointments across its research laboratories and administrative divisions. These changes include new directors for the Physical AI and Immersive Communications research laboratories, signaling a strategic focus on next-generation connectivity and intelligence. For the telecommunications sector, these appointments are critical as they determine the research direction and commercialization strategies of South Korea's leading state-led technology institute.

The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) has designated several new heads of directly affiliated departments to lead its core research initiatives. Yoo Won-pil has been appointed as the Director of the Physical AI Research Laboratory, while Lee Moon-sik will take over as the Director of the Immersive Communications Research Laboratory. Additionally, Park Jun-hee has been named Director of the ADX Convergence Research Laboratory, and Lee Gyu-seong will head the Metropolitan Area Research Headquarters. These roles are essential for advancing South Korea's domestic capabilities in artificial intelligence and advanced communication technologies, which serve as the backbone for future telecommunications infrastructure.

The institute also reshuffled its administrative and strategic leadership to streamline operations and external relations. Seo Tae-cheol was appointed as the Head of the Auditing Department, and Min Moon-hong will lead the External Cooperation Department. Within the Planning Headquarters, Shin Hyun-ung has been named Head of the Management Strategy Department, and Yeon Seung-jun will lead the Strategic Research Planning Division.
