Audi claims most 2026 IIHS TSP+ awards among luxury brands

Audi has secured more 2026 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards than any other luxury brand following the recent designation of the 2026 A6 sedan. This achievement brings the manufacturer's total to seven top-tier safety recognitions for the current cycle, signaling a strong competitive advantage in the premium automotive market. For the luxury goods sector, these ratings serve as a critical benchmark for engineering excellence and consumer trust, particularly as safety standards become increasingly rigorous.

The 2026 Audi A6 earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest recognition after achieving "Good" ratings in small overlap front, moderate overlap front, and side crash tests. This ninth-generation model debuted with enhanced performance and refinement, featuring expanded standard active safety equipment. With this addition, Audi now holds seven TSP+ designations as of July 2026, surpassing all other luxury competitors in the current evaluation cycle.

Beyond the A6, the list of Audi’s top-rated vehicles includes the 2026 A5, Q5, and Q5 Sportback, as well as the 2027 model year A6 Sportback e-tron, Q6 e-tron, and Q6 Sportback e-tron. These awards are particularly significant given that the IIHS implemented more stringent criteria for 2026. Specifically, the institute now mandates a "Good" rating in the updated moderate overlap front test—which emphasizes rear seat safety—whereas an "Acceptable" rating was previously sufficient for the lower-tier TOP SAFETY PICK award.

The 2026 standards also introduced tougher requirements for front crash prevention systems, which must now be standard across all vehicle trims. To qualify for the TSP+ award, vehicles must earn a "Good" rating in pedestrian tests and at least an "Acceptable" rating in a new vehicle-to-vehicle evaluation that incorporates motorcycle and semitrailer targets. By meeting these heightened benchmarks across a broad range of internal combustion and electric models, Audi reinforces its position as a leader in safety technology within the high-end automotive segment.
