Originally marketed as a midsize vehicle, Ford has recently shifted its classification of the model—referred to as the Ranchero—to a compact EV pickup. This change in terminology occurred after prototypes were spotted in the wild parked next to a full-size Ford Expedition, making the size difference apparent. Ford spokeswoman Emma Bergg confirmed that testing is currently underway in Dearborn and various other locations across the United States.

The vehicle's design emphasizes aerodynamics to support its targeted 300-mile range, featuring a curvy front end and a windshield with a sharp rake. Technical details from recent sightings show the truck equipped with 19-inch wheels and 245/55R19 Michelin E Primacy tires, which are optimized for electric vehicle efficiency. Chris Kirkland, Ford’s senior vehicle software specialist, noted that the engineering team is utilizing handling courses to ensure the car remains stable during operation.
