Huntsville Utilities Plants Earn Water Treatment Plant of the Year Honors

The Alabama-Mississippi Section of the American Water Works Association has recognized Huntsville Utilities’ Lincoln-Dallas and South Parkway facilities with Water Treatment Plant of the Year awards. These honors are based on a comprehensive evaluation of regulatory compliance, operational proficiency, and the implementation of innovative safety practices. This recognition underscores the critical importance of maintaining high standards in drinking water production and system management for municipal utilities serving large populations.

Huntsville Utilities announced that two of its facilities, the Lincoln-Dallas and South Parkway water treatment plants, have been named Water Treatment Plants of the Year by the Alabama-Mississippi Section of the American Water Works Association (AWWA). The awards are presented annually to facilities that demonstrate excellence in water quality, safety, and innovation while maintaining rigorous operational records. According to the AWWA, winners are selected based on their performance in regulatory compliance, personnel training, and their overall approach to delivering safe drinking water to the community.

Currently, Huntsville Utilities provides drinking water to approximately 100,000 customers across its service area, drawing from both surface water and groundwater sources. To ensure consistent quality, the utility’s treatment facilities are monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week, by state-certified operators. These individuals must undergo extensive training and testing to meet the certification requirements established by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) before they are permitted to operate the facilities.

The recognition highlights the professionalism of the staff at the Lincoln-Dallas and South Parkway plants and the essential role they play in supporting the region’s infrastructure. By meeting and exceeding industry standards, these facilities serve as models for operational excellence within the Water & Utilities sector.
