State of Connecticut Renews Fleet Management Partnership with Geotab and Advantage One Technologies to Deliver Advanced Automation Solutions

The State of Connecticut Department of Administrative Services (DAS) Fleet Operations has renewed its partnership with Geotab and Advantage One Technologies to enhance the management of its 3,600-vehicle fleet. This agreement introduces a suite of custom-engineered automation tools designed to streamline operational and compliance tasks for over 90 state agencies. By leveraging advanced telematics, the state aims to optimize efficiency, reduce administrative burdens, and ensure rigorous oversight of a fleet that travels approximately 30 million miles annually.

The renewal extends Geotab’s telematics deployment across Connecticut’s diverse fleet, which supports more than 90 state agencies and departments. In collaboration with Geotab Reseller Partner Advantage One Technologies, the state has developed specialized software to replace time-consuming manual processes with automated workflows. A primary feature is the personal versus business mileage automation tool, which automatically captures and preserves usage records to ensure continuous compliance with Department of Revenue Services (DRS) tax requirements. This system replaces manual driver reporting and ensures accurate record-keeping for a fleet that collectively drives approximately 30 million miles annually across multiple shifts.

To improve operational oversight and reduce costs, the state is implementing an overnight parking verification module and integrated data feeds. The parking system automatically confirms that state-owned vehicles are parked in authorized locations after hours and identifies alternative parking options to minimize daily drive times for employees traveling to operational zones. Furthermore, the integration of fuel transactions and Fleet Management Information System (FMIS) data eliminates the need for manual data reconciliation. Ronald Johnson, Fleet Repair Supervisor for DAS Fleet Operations, noted that these automations return hundreds of administrative hours to staff each year, allowing supervisors to focus on asset health and keeping the fleet safe and active.

The partnership also addresses complex regulatory and labor requirements through automated executive and compliance reporting. This feature generates annual vehicle utilization and safety reports formatted specifically to meet Connecticut’s Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) data mandates, replacing a legacy process that previously required weeks of manual coordination. Neil Garrett, Vice President of Business Development, Government at Geotab, highlighted that the state’s specific regulatory and union frameworks required custom solutions that standard telematics tools cannot provide out of the box. By leveraging Geotab’s open platform, the state has converted significant compliance hurdles into automated background processes, freeing up valuable resources for higher-value fleet oversight.
