Carrier Transicold Extends Refrigerated Trailer Life

Carrier Transicold has launched its new Fleet Refresh program, allowing refrigerated fleets to replace aging transport refrigeration units (TRUs) rather than purchasing entirely new trailers. This initiative addresses current industry challenges such as rising equipment costs and extended lead times for new trailer acquisitions. By integrating modern refrigeration technology with existing trailer assets, fleet managers can improve operational efficiency and extend the service life of their equipment.

The Fleet Refresh program is designed to provide refrigerated carriers with a cost-effective alternative to full trailer replacement by installing new Carrier TRUs onto existing trailer bodies. According to Greg Turner, trailer product manager for Truck Trailer Americas at Carrier Transicold, the program helps fleets maintain reliable refrigeration performance even as they extend trailer life cycles due to supply constraints and high costs. By retaining certain trailer-mounted components like fuel tanks and light bars, the program significantly lowers acquisition costs compared to traditional new TRU installations.

The program is compatible with a wide range of Carrier Transicold’s single- and multi-temperature units, including the X4 7500 and 7700 models, as well as the Vector 8500, 8700, 8600MT, and 8800MT series. Each installation comes equipped with Lynx Fleet telematics and BluEdge service coverage. This integration is particularly beneficial for older trailers where insulation efficiency has naturally declined over time, as the Lynx Fleet platform provides critical visibility into unit performance to manage the increased demands placed on the refrigeration equipment.

Beyond hardware replacement, Fleet Refresh offers a technological upgrade for older systems that may have been manufactured before telematics hardware was standard. The Lynx Fleet-ready units allow managers to utilize Carrier’s connected fleet management platform for better data-driven decision-making and preventative maintenance. The removal of old units and the installation of the new systems are handled through Carrier Transicold’s extensive North American dealer network, making the program immediately accessible to fleets looking to maximize the value of their existing assets while ensuring uptime through the BluEdge service plans.
